Guacamole: The Great Divider 🥑

I’ve only been doing this national day thing for about three weeks, but I’ve already ran the gamut of food. There are many national days to choose from per day, yet I routinely choose food. That says something about me.

What does it say?

It means that I find food easy to talk about. For food is something that unifies us. It’s something that brings us together and delights our senses. Dining together is one of the most fundamental means of creating community.

But sometimes food can divide. Think hotdogs, and whether you prefer ketchup or mustard. For my part, I’ll never understand those who prefer mustard on hot dogs. That’s like putting anchovies on pizza: it’s just something humans don’t do.

When it comes to community, food is the great creator and the great destroyer. And there’s one particular food item that can turn any house against itself: guacamole.

Today is National Guacamole Day.

Will you survive?

Where I’m from, to evaluate someone’s guacamole is equivalent to judging someone’s character. If you bring browning, bland guacamole to the Super Bowl party, you might as well march yourself out of my life. Out. You’re gone. You can’t be trusted any longer.

But, no, it is not this serious. I’m happy eating any avocado based product really. We were born for avocados after all. They’re nature’s way of showing that it loves us.

Even so, never ever skimp on guacamole.

For as in your guac as are you.

Happy National Guacamole Day!
