A Review of the Boss Review
Believe it or not, I have a job. And, believe it or not, I also have a boss. Believe it or not, it might get a little awkward were my boss and I to celebrate today’s national day: National Boss/Employee Exchange Day.
Today you’re encouraged to swap roles with your boss and compassionately critique one another.
And trust me, it’s weird.
See, my company tried something similar to this. During yearly reviews, not only was the boss required to review the employee, but the employee was also required to review the boss.
Talk about performance anxiety.
Being too honest may well land me in my boss’s bad graces. But being too sugary might brand me an obvious sycophant. I had to play it safe somewhere in the middle.
So what did I do?
Per my boss’s recommendation, I outsourced it.
At that time we didn’t have A.I., but, as someone identifying as a writer, I would’ve balked at letting the computer do the writing for me. Instead, I googled away, and thankfully Google provided me with many tips on how to review my boss.
To be honest, I don’t remember exactly what I wrote. I’m sure it was generic—but with just enough specifics to make a plausible, coherently professional review.
In the end, I thanked God for the lesson via hardship, but asked that I never experience it again.
And my prayer was answered: the following year we weren’t required to evaluate our boss.
So, do I recommend National Boss/Employee Exchange Day?
Absolutely not.
But if you must do it, then google it!
Happy National Boss/Employee Exchange Day!
